is the benefit of doing so ?

Is it possible for us to install Virtual Server on a physical box with SCSI
disk ?

How about SATA ?

Yes to both. The type of disk in the physical host has no bearing on VS
beyond performance. The faster the disk subsystem in the host, the
better your guests will perform.

We use SATA disks on the physical host, but SCSI in the VMs. Performance is
definitely a little better emulating SCSI. It's not dramatic, but in
disk-intensive tasks it is noticeable.

I've never tried with IDE.

Not.

Simply going into the VM config and switching the interface attached to your
current disk, from IDE to SCSI, is all it takes.

I can't stress enough, however, that you need to add the virtual SCSI
interface, boot up, re-install the VM additions (VM additions must be
installed AFTER the SCSI interface is added), then shutdown and swap
interfaces connected to the disk.

You may find, however, that if you boot to a CD or floppy which does not have
SCSI drivers, the disk may not be recognized by the OS. Also possible is you
can access with SCSI, but it is painfully slow-- such as if you're using Ghost
to lay a sysprepped image. (this happens to us when we use Ghost) If that
happens, just switch the interface back to IDE temporarily, do your DOS
business, switch back to SCSI, and reboot.
