I have tried installing VS 2005 R2 several times on a XP Pro SP3 machine for
testing and development. I installed IIS for the web admin console, rebooted
tried installing VS 2005 and every time the installation gets to the point of
"installing network drivers" the installation will hang for hours and I will
have to cancel the installation and reboot the laptop to be able to use it.

Any assistance is greatly appreciated.

Thank you for your insight. I installed the latest and greatest NIC drivers
for both the Wi-Fi and Ethernet NICs from Dell's support site, rebooted, and
same results where it hangs on "Installing Network Drivers" during the
install.

The brand and model of the NICs are as followed:
1) Intel(R) 82567LM Gigabit Network Connection
2) Dell Wireless 1397 WLAN Mini-Card
3) 1394 Net Adapter #3
4) Cisco Systems VPN Adapter

While watching device manager during the install you can see that on all 3
adapters, with the exception of the 1394 Net Adapter #3, it adds the Virtual
Machine Network Services Driver. But when I cancel the install and it rolls
back the installation those are removed.

Update: I also disabled the 1394 and wireless adapter while installing and no
such luck, same results.
