Can"t install Server 2008 R2 RC

I am using VS 2005 SP1 on a Server 2008 SP1. I have been using 3 guest VMs of
Server 2008.
The issue is that I am not able to install the Server 2008 R2 Release
Candidate. The release notes for the RC says that it can be installed on a
x86 machine. But, when I mount the CD ISO and start my VM, I get an error
"Attempting to load a 64-bit application, however this CPU is not compatible
with 64-bit mode". Here, I don't want my guest OS to be a 64 bit VM. I just
want to install as a 32-bit OS. One more interesting thing is that I am not
even able to upgrade my host which is a Server 2008 SP1 Enterprise 32 bit. It
gives a similar error relating to choose 32-bit or 64-bit version of the
installer. I haven't tried booting my host with this CD yet.

I know that Server 2008 R2 is not yet supported on VS 2005. But, is there
something wrong with the RC? Any ideas?

Has anyone installed RC on VS2005?

It says x86 is supported. Not sure which one is correct. I believe what you
say is true.
