Cannot select SCSI adapter for VHD in 2005 R2

I am trying to add a VHD and have it use an existing virtual SCSI adapter on
my VS2005 R2 sp1 configuration. When I click the Attachment drop-down to
select the connection for the hard disk there are a number of choices,
including the three SCSI adapters, but no matter what I click on, it always
selects Primary channel (1).

Primary channel (0) is already in use for for primary guest system drive.

Can anyone tell me what I am missing here?
