Is there a simple way to increase the size of a virtual disk in Virtual
Server 2005? I have a 20GB vhd and I want to make it a 40GB vhd.

What you'll end up with is another Virtual Disk which you'll need to
add to the VM guest - use Disk Manager to see the new partition.

If you want to meld the two disks together, you have to boot the vm
machine with the new VM disk, then using fidsk extend the partition.
Just google how to do this as this gets tricky!

guest (from the old VHD). Then go to ComputerManagement/DiskManager
and select the new drive there. You will see that it is a 40 Gb drive

full disk space.

Next shut down the guest and go to the properties of the guest and
switch tye primary disk to the new VHD file and disable the secondary

Now when you restart the guest you will have a 40Gb C: drive.

But a question:
Why not make the new disk bigger, say 128 Gb instead. If it is
dynamically expanding it won't use up any more space on the host than
tyhe 40Gb disk will. But after some time when you have filled up the
40Gb you are goiung to have to repeat the above steps. But with the
bigger VHD this will not happen until much later.
