Questions about networking with VS2005...

Hello, All!
Here is what I have set up, and then I have some questions regarding
some issues I'm having. I have two physical computers one running Windows
XP Professional SP2 and one running Slackware Linux. They are connected to
a switch, which has a connection to my DSL modem. The DSL modem provides
DHCP services to the computers and routing also. On the Windows XP
computer, I'm running Virtual Server 2005, with two versions of Windows
Server 2003 as guests. Currently, I have the integrated Ethernet that came
with my motherboard as the only NIC in the physical computer. And, I don't
have the "Loopback Adapter" installed in Windows.
The issue I'm having is this (and it began when I had the Servers on
Virtual PC, 2004 and continued even though I've done a clean installation of
one copy of Windows Server since I installed Virtual Server). From the
guest, I can ping or do nslookup on a website and get the replies. But, if
I try to use Automatic Updates, Internet Explorer (or any other browser),
MSN Messenger, my updater for my antivirus or firewall, or any "higher
level" internet access program, it doesn't connect. In fact, it doesn't
even register anything on the Network connection icon. Currently, I'm
running both servers without a firewall.
This began when I uninstalled Tiny's Personal Firewall from my host
Operating System, and installed Outpost Firewall. I was still on Virtual
PC, 2004 at the time. It has since transferred over to Virtual Server, even
though I have "External Network" configured for my NIC on both servers.

Ok.. My questions are these...
1. Could the uninstallation of Tiny's Personal Firewall have removed a
network adapter that only VirtualPC and Virtual Server uses?
2. Do I need to install the loopback adapter even though I can ping
websites, and I can access the other computers on my local network?
3. Even though all of the warnnings say that the host's firewall doesn't
affect the Guest OS, could it be affecting it somehow (I've got eveyrthing I
can think of in the "trust always" category).?
4. Do I need to install a physical NIC for each server that I'm running
into the host computer (actually plug in a Network card, I mean)? And if so,
do I need to physically connect it to the switch with an Ethernet Cable?
5. Along the lines of Question 5, If I were to contact Tech Support about
this, would I file it under Virtual Server, Windows XP (the host) or Windows
Server 2003 (the Guest)?

Thanks in advance for any information and assistance provided.

With best regards, Patrick Dickey. E-mail: pd1ckey43**RemoveThis**@msn.com
