Running Virtual Server 2005 R2 (upgraded from R1), v1.1.629.0, have a VPC
running of Windows 2008 Server (running WSSv3sp1 as well), but it
consistently stops responding after a couple of days. I need to turn it off
and restart this VPC to get it back online. I realized the VM machine
additions are out of date. So I thought I would reinstall them. I tried to
uninstall first but I get "setup ended prematurely", then tried to run the
installer directly, and I get
"{\Tahoma8}Due to Group Policy, you do not have sufficient permissions to
install Virtual Machine Additions. " . I am the admin, and turned running
the installer with a right click "install as administrator". Tried w/ UAC on
and UAC off.

Any known workarounds? TIA

when try to uninstall "Virtual Machine Additions" v13.552 on Windows Server
2003 SP1.

0. Make Backup of your VM first.
1. Create a temporarely OU in Active Directory.
2. Create a Group-Policy for installing the software "VM-Additions" for this
version which is installed on your server.
3. Map this group-policy to the temporarely OU.
4. Move your server to this OU.
5. Install "Windows Server 2003 SP2". Reboot.
6. On the server "gpudpate /Force /Boot". Reboot.
7. Login and see in Eventviewer if VM-Additions were successfully installed
(i think you have to install the VM-Additions even if they are currently
installed).
8. Move the computer out of the temporarely OU.
9. "gpupdate /Force /boot" on the server. Reboot.
10. Login and see if VM-Additions were successfully uninstalled (No entry
more in Add/Remove Software, No VM-Services available, no VM-Hardware in
Device-Manger (hidden)).
11. Remove VM-Additions from CD-Drive.
12. Shutdown.

For Migrating to Hyper-V now.

13. Migrate Server to Hyper-V with VMC2HV-Tool (VMC to Hyper-V).
14. Insert "Hyper-V-Additions-CD". Start install (no mouse-support here).
15. HAL will be updated. Reboot. After Login, Hyper-V-Additions get
installed. Reboot.
16. Hyper-V-Additions should now be installed and working and the mouse
should be available in Remote-Console.

Thats it.This worked for me.
