How would I possibly get this work?

Hi all,

I have syspreped Windows 2003 OS VHD. With hyper-V, If I create one VM
which uses IDE controller and use syspreped windows 2003 OS VHD. the virtual
machine starts fine. If I create one VM which use SCSI controller and use
syspreped windows 2003 OS VHD, the VM can not start and got "Boot failure:
Reboot and Select proper Boot device or insert boot media in selected boot
device". After further investigation, I guess that I can not add SCSI in the
boot order.

In the future, I am going to use windows 2003 OS VHD on the SAN storage, How
would I bring this VM on line since I can not add other device in the boot
order.

I am totally lost now. Can anyone share what you have done to make VM with
OS VHD to start on the SAN storage?

I deperately need your help now.

You're correct - the OS needs to boot from an IDE controller. You can add
additional SCSI controllers and disks afterward.

Keep in mind that IDE/SCSI has no relationship to the underlying hardware -
they are just VHDs, after all. Where they reside is totally irrelevant to
what type you specify in any VM.

ALL VMs must use the virtaual IDE as the boot disk. The SCSI disk type isn't
recognized early enough in the process, since it requires that the
Integration Components be loaded.

Hello my Friend.

The Best Practise, is to install the SCSI Controllers afterward.

This is the Best Practise In Steps.

Step 1 --> Shut Download the VM

Step 2 --> Install the Additiona Vitual SCSI Controllers

Step 3 --> Boot normally on IDE

Step 4 --> You can see in your OS that you have "New Hardware Found"

Step 5 --> In Device Manager make sure you have the "Virtual SCSI Adapter"
Device Installed and NOT the emulated one , called "Adaptec something.."

Step 6 -- > In Case you see in the Device Manager the Emulated SCSI
Controller appearing "Adaptec" , upgrade the driver in the Virtual One

Step 7 --> Shut Down VM

Step 8 --> Boot Up Using SCSI Controller from the Virtual Server Options

Step 9 --> You are in Good Boot with the SCSI Controller.

thanks for your help.

CAN I possibly use and start preconfigured OS VHD on the SAN storage?

I did not use GUID volume and I use Drive letter. After LUN cretaed and
presented on the host, I created simple volume and formated NTFS. copy the
syspreped windows 2003 OS VHD on this drive and try to start it and can not
start it.
If I put it on the local IDE drive, the VM started perfectly.

Anything I am missing?
