Virtual Server 2005 R2 SP1 - installation failed

Source: microsoft.public.virtualserver

Message:

Hi,

I'm trying to install Virtual Server 2005 R2 SP1 on a IBM blade server HS20
with Windows Server 2003 R2 Std Ed. with SP2 fully patched.

The installation fails after copying all the files and registering the keys.

I am a local administrator on this server.

Event Type: Information
Event Source: MsiInstaller
Event Category: None
Event ID: 11708
Date: 9/2/2008
Time: 1:01:05 PM
User: Domain\Administrator
Computer: COMPUTERNAME
Description:
Product: Microsoft Virtual Server 2005 R2 SP1 -- Installation failed

And I also get before this:

Event Type: Information
Event Source: MsiInstaller
Event Category: None
Event ID: 11707
Date: 9/2/2008
Time: 1:00:24 PM
User: Domain\Administrator
Computer: COMPUTERNAME
Description:
Product: MSXML 6.0 Parser (KB927977) -- Installation completed successfully.

Now, when I'm going to C:\Documents and Settings\administrator\Local
Settings\Temp\1, I can find the logs and the Virtual Server 2005 Install.msi
extracted from the setup.exe.

By opening the VSInstallLog.txt, here's the excerpt where it stops
installing and rolling back the installation:

In C:\Documents and Settings\administrator\Local Settings\Temp\1, there is
also msxml6-KB927977-enu-x86.exe that was extracted from the setup.exe. When
I run it manually, I get:
"Installation of MSXML 6.0 Parser (KB927977) failed because a higher version
already exists on the machine. To proceed, uninstall the hiher version and
then run MSXML 6.0 Parser (KB927977) Setup again."

I then uninstalled the KB933579, afterwards I uninstalled the KB927977 too
as it was already installed. The installation keeps failing.

By enabling more verbosity in MSI installation, I found this:
Property(C): Error_disallowedSVMCPUTitleText = Microsoft Virtual Server 2005
R2 SP1
Property(C): Error_disallowedSVMCPUErrorText = Setup has detected AMD
processor with hardware-assisted virtualization capability. Installation of
Microsoft Virtual Server 2005 R2 SP1 cannot proceed until the required patch
is installed as per instructions outlined in the Microsoft Knowledge Base
article at http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=924131.

Hum... I don't have an AMD processor but 2 Intel Xeon!!
It is not a 64 bits but a 32 bits server.
So the patch with the KB924131 cannot apply to my server.

At the end of this MSI log file, I get:
Property(C): CAP_IsNotFixedDrive = 0
Property(C): CAP_IsDisallowedFileSystem = 0
=== Logging stopped: 9/2/2008 15:56:54 ===
MSI (c) (00:C8) [15:56:54:091]: Note: 1: 1708
MSI (c) (00:C8) [15:56:54:091]: Product: Microsoft Virtual Server 2005 R2

MSI (c) (00:C8) [15:56:54:091]: Grabbed execution mutex.

MSI (c) (00:C8) [15:56:54:091]: MainEngineThread is returning 1603
=== Verbose logging stopped: 9/2/2008 15:56:54 ===

In the second MSI log file, I get:
=== Logging stopped: 9/2/2008 15:56:08 ===
MSI (c) (D4:DC) [15:56:08:623]: Note: 1: 1708

MSI (c) (D4:DC) [15:56:08:639]: Grabbed execution mutex.
MSI (c) (D4:DC) [15:56:08:639]: Cleaning up uninstalled install packages, if
any exist
MSI (c) (D4:DC) [15:56:08:639]: MainEngineThread is returning 1602
=== Verbose logging stopped: 9/2/2008 15:56:08 ===

After installing manually msxml6-KB927977-enu-x86.exe, VS 2005 R2 SP1 cannot
be installed.

Anybody any idea to install VS 2005 on this server (I also tried the VS 2005
R2 without SP1 and I get the same result).

Thanks for any help
