Display Settings Screen Resolution

Message:

Some of our apps are appearing blurry when we access a virtual machine via
RDP. For instance, I created a Vista virtual machine with the Vista
background -- you know, the real pretty blues and yellows. But when I
connect to this machine via RDP, it looks blurry, washed out, and almost
like VGA.

I've tried hard coding my RDP connection with mstsc.exe /v:machinename
/h:1280 /w:1024 (and various other settings) but no luck.

I've also tried changing my default display settings for the Virtual Server
(2005). As well as remote controlling the VMs and trying to change the
settings there. Nothing seems to help.

Who is in charge of the screen display resolution in a case like this? The
physical host machine? Or the default display settings in Virtual Server
2005? Or the display settings of the virtual machines?
