Virtual environment on cluster

Message:

I have been asked to provide a solution for a variety of platforms within a
single building. Fault tolerance is very imortant.

Based upon my preconceived ideas of Server 2008 Clusters and HyperV I am
thinking along the lines of 5 or 6 fairly powerful servers running as a
cluster and hosting a virtual environment into which I can then install a
variety of virtual machines.

Presumably I can hot swap out actual physical servers as required and
create, backup and delete virtual machines within the environment as needed.

Before I go and spend too much time researching all this, as it's a
deviation from our usual business area, I would be grateful if anyone could
pitch in and tell me if I'm on the right track.

Thanks.
