I started off by making sure I had the latest Intel x64 NIC driver,
staticly-configured it, no VLANs or other funkiness at this point and life
was good.

Then I created a Hyper-V virtual network and bound it to the Intel physical
interface.

Of course, Hyper-V wanted to pull all the other bindings off the physical
interface and move them onto the virtual switch ... alright, I'll go along
with that.

So, with one physical interface and one virtual switch (and 4 VMs attached
to that switch), life seemed pretty good.

But I see now that, at vaying intervals, packets just stop flowing between
the virtual switch and the rest of the world.

If I log in at the physical console and bring up the status dialog for the
physical interface, I can see the icon sections for inbound/outbound packets
blinking, indicating that traffic is hitting both sides, but neither packet
count changes. All I have to do is disable and then re-enable the physical
interface and everything starts flowing freely again.

This can happen at intervals ranging from 30 minutes to 24 hours.

Anybody else getting these kinds of hiccups?

Well, nobody else seems to have been whinging about this so I wound up
assuming that it was just me ... and, what-do-you-know, it was.

Bottom line is that this motherboard has AMT 3.0 and I staticly configured
it to the same IP address as the OS. Problem is, when you switch AMT into a
static config it assigns a 2nd MAC address to the AMT subsystem and
assigning the same IP to AMT as to the OS results in the same IP being
assigned to 2 MAC interfaces ... oops. (Mind you, DHCP'ing AMT results in
the motherboard's MAC address being *shared* by AMT and the OS ... so, it's
easy to get tripped up by this.)

Things are looking up.

I guess that now I'll take another stab at using Intel ANS to set up
nultiple VLAN adapters for the base OS.
