CDRom / DVD Drive Issue

Hi Folks,

I have two virtual machines running on a server that has a real DVD drive,
both of my VM are set to use this drive as a Physical CD/DVD drive under the
real drive letter of the host server. The issue I have it that I have to
re-boot whichever VM I want to be able to see the contents of the DVD drive
for it to work. If I canange the disk in the drive the VM still see the old
disk. If I eject from the VM and then press F5 the contents disapear but if I
put a new disk n the drive the VM will not see it until a reboot.

Can anyone shed some light on this for me please? I am running V 1.1.603.0
EE R2 SP1 on a W2K3 SP3 Enterprise server.

hm is it handy to have a real DVD connected ??

What i do is use ISO files uncer virtual server 2005R2
together with a freeware app to convert folders into ISO files quite handy.
(google for folder2iso.exe )

And regular CDees i rip to ISO format and put them on fileserver or USB disk.
Since well DVD's actualy dont store that much, perhaps bleuray will..

I think it is handy to be able to just slap a DVD in the drive to install
software etc, I also use ISOs which work just fine, I don't want to load up a
number of DVDs that I might use as an ISO as it is a waste of disk space etc.

I don't have any icon(s) in the guest window, I have looked at all the
windows presented by the Admin Tool and can't see a capture options there
either.

No probs <g>, I prefer to keep my hosts running under VS2005 so I can use
the full managment tools (VMM). I have a work around by using a share on a
spare optical drive and the ISO option works just fine.

I am a bit though....
I did not realize I answered a virtualserver posting with a vpc2007
answer. In VPC2007 there is a window with these icons.

I can't help for VS because the only guest I have in VS2005 is
originally created in VPC2007, I just registered it inside VS2005 to
have it run whenever my host is running.

Maybe you could do the CD stuff while running your guest in VPC2007
instead?
