virtual DCs as part of DR Plan ?

Source: microsoft.public.virtualserver

Message:

Hello,

I'm currently busy creating and testing a disaster recovery plan.
We have a forest with trusts to 5 other forests. The DR Plan I'm
writing only covers our main forest, which contains a top-level
domain, and about 10 child-domains.
The toplevel domain runs on 3 DCs, each running on a physical
machine. For each child-domain, we have on average one physical DC
'in the field', and two DCs running on Virtual Server in our main
centralised computer rooms.

We need a DR Plan to rebuild the whole forest from scratch : we cannot
assume that there are _any_ working DCs left. AD is completely gone
in our worst-case scenario.

So far, I've found several documents that say that the toplevel domain
needs to be restored first.

What I'd like to do is to add an additional DC for the toplevel
domain, running on a virtual server, so that when disaster strikes, I
can restore the backups of this virtual DC onto a new virtual server,
in order to eliminate hardware dependency when restoring.

I'd like to know if Microsoft supports this configuration : that is,
running production DCs (partly) on Virtual Servers. Can anyone point
me in the direction of documents by Microsoft stating that this is a
supported setup ?

Thanks,

Joris.
