cannot connect to my LAN

Hello

I have a network problem with virtualpc
My mac is connected to internet with a dsl router wich is always on.
the router IP address is 192.168.0.1
the mac IP adress is 192.168.0.2
The mac is connected to internet, but my provider requires a MTU of
1492 instead of 1500.
On the same mac it is installed virtual pc.
I gave the pc the same gateway address, and an IP address of
192.168.0.3
I cannot connet to the internet
if I try to ping my router (start>run>cmd and then "ping 192.168.0.1")
I receive as anwser "Request Time out".
It seems to me that before understanding how to change MTU in virtual
pc (I dont have very clear this, yet), there is a problem of
connection. I would say that if I cannot ping the router, nothing is
going to work.
If I try to ping the router from my mac everything is fine.
Can anybody help?
Thank you in advance.
Marcello
