I have never installed it but i have a brand new pc with Windows vista 64 bit
and 4 gigs of ram, this may sound stupid but can both the host and a guest
operating system at the same time. I want to setup a virtual pc at my office
to allow me to do my accounting(Peachtree) while someone else is using the
host OS. I would access the virtual pc by RDP. It is to solw to be remote to
the server that holds the peachtree database.

Are you asking if it will work, or telling us that it works but is too slow?

And which is the 64-bit Vista machine? Is it the computer you are using, or the
host of the virtual machine? It is the host of the virtual machine that needs to
be powerful (plenty of memory in particular).

Business 64 for the Guest also, The peachtree database is on a different
server at our Corp Office. I talked with peachtree and it will work just
fine on a VM. I didn't really think there would be a issue since it really
doesn't know it is on a VM. I will be RDP to the guest on the host machine.
I tried it over a VPN to my remote office but it was painfully slow.
Peachtree must pass a ton of info over the vpn since even if i change 1 item
in the database it takes almost a minute and a half to complete and let me
move on. We have new cable internet connections at each site and a site to
site vpn (Cable is twelve meg internet at each end. Burstable to 16) but it
is just two slow. Thats why i want the Virtual PC.

Do you know is there a way to have the VPC start even if no one logs in or
is logged in at the office PC?

If you want to run a VM as a server, a better solution is Virtual
Server. It runs as a service and is headless, so whoever's on the
physical PC won't see it or be able to interact with it as easily as
with VPC. Virtual Server also only supports 32bit OSes.

Yes they can. That is the principal advantage of virtualisation software
over dual-booting...
Virtual PC is just an application, a piece of software, in the same way as
Word or Excel is just an application...

Waste of time, I'm afraid, as Virtual PC does not support 64-bit guests...

You'd be better off using Virtual Server, which runs as a service. However,
it doesn't support 64-bit guests either...
