VPC crashing on Office activity in host machine

Message:

I am having increasing problems with Virtual PC 2007 SP1 crashing ("Virtual
PC 2007 SP1 has stopped working", with the details indicating an APPCRASH in
module ntdll.dll) when I am active in Word and Excel. Actions which have
caused a crash include pasting, deleting, and closing the application. It has
occurred with both Office XP and Office 2007 applications (I have both on the
same computer). Nothing is happening in VPC when the crashes happen; it is
clearly caused by the Office app (I do the action as a keystroke and VPC
immediately grays out). Today it has happened to me at least half a dozen
times, which has made VPC essentially unusable.

I'm running Vista Business as the host computer; the VM that's been up while
all this has happened today is XP Pro, FWIW, though one time no VM at all was
running when VPC crashed.

Any ideas on what's going on and how to correct it? VPC is an extremely
important application for me--and so is Office.
