I'm trying to setup a Virtual Machine to have full access to a physical disk
on my system by creating a virtual disk that is linked to the physical disk.
However the disk i want to use it not listed in the Virtual Disk Wizard.

The system has two disks one 120GB that is my system disk running Vista and
Virtual PC (This is shown in Virtual Disk Wizard). The second disk (the one
i want to access from VPC) is a 1TB disk but it does not show up in Virtual
Disk Wizard so i cannot create a link to it. It shows up fine in Vistas Disk
Manger application so its
working fine from the host OS.

Any tips?

Well, the disk is not assigned a drive letter in the host OS. The disk is
partitioned as one big primary partition with an encrypted filesystem (ext3)
so Windows cannot mount it.

Even if it was mounted in the host os, shouldnt VPC still be able to access
it in read-only mode? According to the Virtual Disk Wizard i can mount my
hosts system partition, the 120GB drive, in read-only mode.

Any other tips?

That's basically your problem, only one of the two (host / VM) can see
the disk at a time. To get the VM to be able to see it you must
remove the drive letter.

Interesting, that really should work, but I never tried it with an
ext3 disk, somehow the host is still locking it.

Unfortunately not -- the messages you get are pretty misleading. If
the disk is a mounted disk, you can only copy its contents into a VHD,
it cannot be attached to a virtual machine. (Assuming you're using
VPC2007 SP1).

Otherwise the only way that worked before was to have the disk (whole
disk) unmounted. I don't know if it still works as I doesn't have
anything to test that one.
