I hope someone may be able to help me. I have a Windows Vista Ultimate PC.
I have installed Virtual PC, and then a Windows 2003 server. I have set the
networking to Shared Networking (NAT), however the virtual machine will not
get a DHCP IP Address, it just gets an automatic IP address from the system.

I have turned off the firewall on the Host PC, but this has made no
difference.

Can anyone help me?

and subnet as your LAN, then use the real NIC, not shared. This will make

I agree with Bob. Shared Networking (NAT) is not a good option for a
server. A server does not work well as an ICS client either.

Either run the server as another server on the LAN (as Bob suggested) or
run it in its own network (Local Only). The latter is the best option if you
are considering running it as a DC.

I installed virtual server 2005 SP1 on a windows 2003 server on a HP DL380 which has 2 network ports. I installed windows server 2008 trial to test it as a virtual machine. One network port is used by the host OS and I assigned the second network port to the guest OS. We already have a DHCP server in the network, but the gues OS (windows server 2008) only gets an automatic private ip address. It does not pick up an ip from our DHCP server. all other devices if connected to the network obtain an ip from our DHCP server. Could someone help me solve this problem?
