microsoft public virtualpc: unsupported OS -- slightly OT :-)

Target OS: Debian
Under Application: Microsoft Virtual PC 2007
Host: XP pro SP2
Connection type: DSL
Current Debian network type: Ethernet.
My host network type: Ethernet

Debian browser: iceweasel
Debian desktop: Gnome (I think)

I saw a cute tagline yesterday: "Ubuntu -- old African word for an OS for
people who can't configure Debian".

I have found that the majority of Linux users on usenet groups are
jerks.:-)

There are some nice people on those groups, but the jerk factor makes up
for that.

For several hours yesterday I worked on setting up networking from debian
gnome and at the end realized that I was right where I had started, only
with two more useless desktop icons on gnome..

The idea is to get the guest Linux machine to share the DSL connection
with the XP host and maybe someone here has trod this path before
me........

I have used nano to directly edit a config file. Once. (color depth)

I made the root password and my user password the same -- a bad idea I
understand now. To edit the config file, I have gotten around that using
the same password with help from here. Dropping from gnome with
ctl-alt-f2, the text screen leaves me pretty clueless -- other than
shutdown :-). I have no idea how to change these passwords now.

I know that it can connect if it wants to since part of the "net-install"
was an option to download (get-apt, build, make, whatever) to download
about 700 files from a mirror site -- which it did (about 30 minutes to
install the OS and about 2 hours to install the apps.from "mirror")

I need help in how to share the dsl connection of the XP host under MS VPC
with the debian guest......

FACE
