VPC Additions in Safe Mode on Vista?

Starting Vista Ultimate in Safe Mode means no Virtual Machine Additions.

I could not figure out how to handle the mouse. I got a popup as soon as
Vista loaded in Safe Mode about how to grab the mouse inside and outside the
virtual window. That was when I realized Additions didn't load (which makes
sense because it was Safe Mode). Safe Mode started full screen also (even
though that was not set in Settings) so there was no moving the mouse in and
out of the virtual window as the virtual window takes the entire screen.

Nothing I tried gave me control of the mouse.

I tried to use the key board and nothing worked (enter, escape, etc).
Finally, I had to resort to the using the tower button to shut down the
guest machine and the host. So, I'd like some tips on how to get the mouse
working in Safe Mode on Vista on VPC and are there keyboard commands I could
use if I can't get control of the mouse in Safe Mode?

After I had to resort to using the tower button when I booted Vista again
Settings were totally messed up. Most of the items had nothing in the right
pane and I kept getting an error message when I would try to click on a
individual setting "Unsupported Operation has Been Attempted".
