I used the install instructions from this webpage to install ubuntu
8.0.4-desktop:

Had to add the “noreplace-paravirt” parameter to the startup, but then
it worked fine.

Now I really want to have a larger desktop resolution than the 800x600
that seems to be the default. Problem is that I cannot find where I
can set it, in the System/ScreenResolution box there are only 3
selections, all with 800 something horizontal size. It seems like
ubuntu running in VPC2007 has not detected the capabilities of the
video card provided by VPC2007...

Is anyone here able to direct me on how to get at least 1280x1024
resolution?

I think you just restart the x-server. I that doesn't work a reboot
certainly will.

Every time I start up my guest it does *not* connect the network. I
have always to go and click the network icon in the upper right and
select Wired network.

Is there some way to make this selection stick so it will do this
automatically each time or is this a security measure in Ubuntu to
have the users explicitly connect the network?

And another thing is the sound issue. On login there is a sound
(plonk) but when I go to the preferences for sound there is no way I
can play any of the various sounds. Why is this?
