DOS telnet to Linux File Server

Hello,
I am trying to run DOS (VPC2007) telnet to connect to a local (actually the
same machine using VMWare) Linux system (Fedora 4). What are the
prerequisites to turn an ordinary Linux system into a file server?
The machine address (Linux) from VMNet is 192.168.177.1 or it may be
changing all the times.
The VPC2007 DOS part is working okay. But when I telnet'd to the Linux
system, connection wasn't successful.
Is it a possible move for a connection topology like this?
Any thoughts?
