Running a virtual image of Windows XP

I created a virtual image of a machine using Acronis True Image
Workstation Echo.
I'm trying to run the image on a different laptop.

Both laptops are of same model (Dell latitude D630).

When I start the virtual machine using MS Virtual PC, the machine
starts and when I try to login, I get this message:

"This copy of windows must be activated with Microsoft before you can
log on. Do you want to activate Windows now?"

Only a windows xp screen comes up when I click 'Yes' or 'No' and I'm
not able to activate. Calling Microsoft didn't help. How can I
activate this virtual copy of Windows XP?

I'm able to login in 'Safe Mode' but not in normal mode.

That's your only way to fix this kind of problem.

My bet is that copy of XP is BIOS locked to the original hardware and
a virtual machine doesn't have the same BIOS. No way around it if you
can't activate it over the phone.
