Installing VS

Message:

I am familiar with basic networking, and am able to map VPC guests and their
WinXP Pro host together. In order to gain the ability to program a VM, I
recently installed VS 2005 R2, and went on line to configure a VS by
connecting it to a existing vhd (with OS and applications already installed),
the Intel network adapter, and got as far as viewing my application run
within a IE remote control (?) window. I noted that the VPC 2007 console now
included the VM created by VS 2005. I was unable to run the VS with its own
display adapter, except when I started it from the PVC's console. I assume
that the VM started from the console was a VPC, not a VS.

My original VPCs lost the ability to network. When booting the VPCs, a error
message regarding disabled access to the Intel network adapter appeared. I
backed through the VS install as best as I could recall and even turned off
the server, but was unable to reconnect my original network. After
uninstalling VS, I had to resorted to a systems restore to regained control
of my network.

How do I get some basic instructions and definitions regarding installing
and configuring virtual servers without shutting down my existing network.
Basic is good, I had some problems with server terminology in the VS 2005
documentation.
