Managing public PC"s with Virtual PC at Library

Hello - I work for a public library and I am trying to wrap my mind around an
idea and I am hoping this community can help me clarify this.....

The issue is that I manage approx. 150 PC's...currently all running
Microsoft XP....I mainly use scripts (VB Scripts) to try and deploy updates,
software installations, etc....but it is still difficult to keep up with all
the maintenance even though I do use Microsoft Shared Computer Toolkit....

The idea I have is the potential of using "Virtual PC's" whereby I edit one
image when I need to update, push this image out to systems, and then the
system boots with this new image......

Any opinions on how this might work?
Also, How can I autoboot a virtual PC image?

One of the problems is you'd need twice the number of XP licenses and
there's really no way to shut out the host OS, so it would be pretty
vulnerable to someone who knew what they were doing. And you'd still
have to patch the host OS's...

The easiest way of dealing with this kind of problem is probably to allow
your computers to remotely boot over the network using PXE. Like Bob Comer
has said in his previous answer, the idea of using VPC instead is probably
not a good one for this kind of problem.

Why do it this way, Setup 1 server and use dumb terminals in the libraries,
that way the only PC you have to update is the Server, and it makes it more
secure.
