Neither product will ever support 64bit guests. 64bit guest support is planned for Microsoft Virtualization Technology which will first appear in Longhorn Server SP1, perhaps two to three years from now. MSVT is is being looked at for inclusion in Windows Codename Vienna (the next client after Vista). However, it is not going to appear in Vista at all.

Microsoft VT essentially moves Virtual Server into the operating system's kernel so this technology will render Virtual Server and Virtual PC irrelevant for those operating systems (Longhorn Server and Vienna) which include VT.

VMWare Workstation 6 RC just released for public testing and does include support for 64bit clients on machines with certain cpu's.

The worst people in this respect I know are those that add stupid
disclaimers and ads to their replies (often at the end) and then they
top post instead of posting after the thing they reply to, making the
message totally unreadable.

*That* is what I would complain about rather than Paul cleaning up in
the message body before posting!

For the differences consult the respective home pages for VPC and VS on
microsoft.com. The engine that runs a vm is the same. The choice of which
to use depends on your usage of the vm. In broadest terms VS is designed
for setting up and adminstering server vm's and VPC is designed for clients.

for server like environments and VPC for client environments, though
both can do either.

access is via VMRC, which doesn't have any copy/paste or drag/drop
capabilities.

while VPC has to have the UI running.

Virtual Server also emulates SCSI disk and VPC doesn't, not to mention
VSS support in the upcoming release of Virtual Server R2 SP1.
